Module 1
Importing Data
Power BI Desktop, the companion application to Power BI online. Students will connect to the most popular multiple data sets and import to Power BI. Data repositories will include Microsoft Excel, SQL Server Analysis Services Cubes and Dynamics 365. Data will also be sourced from online sources within Azure
Module 2
Advanced Data Modelling
Concepts of data modelling, building on existing data warehouse implementations to create a custom data model inside Power BI, allowing the rapid development and deployment of advanced analytics for everyone. Relationships will include active and inactive relationships within the model, many to many relationships and creation of hierarchies
Module 3
Advanced Visuals
We will use our newly created Power BI model to create stunning highly interactive report pages, using nearly all of the visualisations available within Power BI. We will even look at importing other visualisations from the Microsoft marketplace. Advanced visual techniques will be covered, interactions, bookmarks, advanced filtering and mapping. We will create drill through interactions, cover when using M and DAX and the use of columns and measures
Module 4
Advanced DAX
We will build on the DAX formulas to create new measures within our Power BI report pages, using SUMX, AVERAGEX and CALCULATE, advanced filtering within DAX. Variables will be introduced, the use of R and Python for import and adding scripts
Module 5
Direct Query and Large Datasets
Here we will look at working with Direct Query and Large Datasets with Power BI. Techniques will cover when and how to use aggregate tables. We will also cover how and when to use SSAS tabular models and the control it brings
Module 6
Branding and Custom Themes
Branding is important to any visual analysis and reporting, we will use custom themes, colours, the use of HEX colours within Power BI and create JSON templates
